Who we are
The Income Tax Gazetted Officers’ Association — ITGOA — is the service association of promotee Gazetted Officers of the Income Tax Department. Its Office and Headquarters are at New Delhi, and it functions through Units across the country, of which the Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Unit, with its headquarters at Chennai, is one.
The Association is recognised under the Central Civil Services (Recognition of Service Associations) Rules, 1993. Its present Constitution was adopted at the Extra-ordinary General Body Meeting held at Pune in September 1994 and has since been amended at General Body Meetings held at New Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Guwahati and again at New Delhi in February 2022. The latest amendments were approved by the Central Board of Direct Taxes on 28 August 2024.
What we do
The Association takes up matters affecting the service interests of its members with the Department and with the Board, and works for the redressal of grievances relating to pay, promotion, prospects, status, service conditions and retirement benefits. It also works in co-ordination with other service associations where a common cause requires it.
By its own Constitution, the Association does not represent interests on the basis of any caste, tribe or religious denomination, or of any group or section within such a denomination.

How the Association is organised
Central Headquarters
The CHQ consists of Office Bearers elected at the Biennial General Body Meeting, together with those nominated in that meeting or in a Managing Committee Meeting. Management vests in the General Body, the Managing Committee and the Secretariat.
Units
Each Unit consists of Unit Office Bearers and Executive Committee Members duly elected and nominated. For Units with moffussil stations, the headquarters is normally at the place where the Principal Chief Commissioner is stationed.
Meetings
The Biennial General Body Meeting is ordinarily held once in two years, and the gap between one meeting and the next shall not exceed twenty-seven months. Notice with the agenda is circulated at least thirty days in advance.
